Known as the suspended monasteries of heaven, the monasteries of Meteora are in Thessaly , northern Greece . Built on mountain gray peaks worn by thousands of years of erosion strength of earthquakes and rose with a river gone that flowed into the sea from Thessaly, are inhabited since the fourteenth century and some are built to heights of 600 meters above sea level .



According to legend, these stones on which they were raised, were thrown from the sky for ascetics through prayer may be physically closer to divinity. 


The monasteries of Meteora were concomitantly built by Christians fleeing the Turks and Albanians. Faithful Athanasius, who was expelled from Mount Athos. In monasteries of Byzantine architecture, relics and frescoes depicting the martyrdom suffered by its founder are treasured.
