The continental shelf of South America is home to 6% of the world population and is "wrapped" by the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, which is the mass of the planet's largest water and the crystal clear Caribbean Sea . His landscapes are breathtaking mountains to rainforests, deserts and rolling meadows.

In the north the farthest tip of the continental plate is Punta Gallinas : - Beyond the Andes, through the vast deserts of La Guajira in Colombia, on Caribbean Sea lies this desolate place called Punta Gallinas, a stunning natural landscape of mesas, dunes and rocky cliffs, emerging from the sea, embracing the beautiful Bay Hondita. Their exotic beaches and mangrove belts, keep the charm and lonely virgin area in which the essence of the elements is revealed.

Crossing the continent, more than 6,000 km south of the north end is Cape Froward in Chile, formerly called Morro de Santa Agueda is the southernmost of the mainland American point. It was the English privateer Thomas Cavendish, in January 1587, who named the place, following the extremely hostile climate with strong winds and rain (the translation of the name is angry, hostile or uncontrollable) At the top of the cape was built a large metal cross called Cruz de los Mares, in tribute to the visit of Pope John Paul II to Chile in 1987.

In northern Peru in the region of Piura on the Pacific Ocean, is Punta Balcones area of confluence of the Humboldt current (cold water) and Child (warm water), this is the most westerly point of South America. Much of the coastal configuration is over 25 meters above sea level, with excellent waves for water sports and rocky areas or rocks up to about 4 meters high, resting place of wolves marine.

Finally, the place that first sees the sun in the South American continent is Ponta do Seixas  is the easternmost of Brazil and Latin continental point. It is located in the eastern part of the city of João Pessoa, capital of Paraíba, fourteen miles from the city center.
